“Climate Change Impact During the Transition to Renewable Energy in the Natural and Social Landscape in Tierra del Fuego, Southern Chile” a Howard E. Woodin Environmental Studies Colloquium Series talk by Gabriela Mora-Klepis, Senior Research Technician, Geography and Geosciences Department, at The University of Vermont.

Green hydrogen is considered a promising renewable energy to transition from fossil fuels. Southern Patagonia offers the natural landscape for hydrogen production through electrolysis. Funding from the World Bank, the Chilean Government, and private industry will likely result in hydrogen production being exported to Europe. Interviews with stakeholders provide insights on the decision-making process in that remote part of the world.

Gabriela was born and raised in Mexico City. She holds a bachelor’s degree as a Geology Engineer from UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico). She was an exchange student at the Geological Survey of Japan. Gabriela also holds a master’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin. Through her professional career she has had the privilege to live in Japan, Australia, and travel through New Zealand, Iceland, and Chile. Gabriela has been living in Vermont since 1999.
