Margaret Jacobs is a Kanien’kehá:ka (Mohawk) metalsmith, who creates fabricated steel sculpture that showcase and explore kinships to botanicals and the natural world as well as values systems that we hold as humans. Margaret’s work explores the lines of contemporary craft and art objects alongside Indigenous narratives (as an enrolled member of the Akwesasne Mohawk Nation) as well as historical and personal narratives. By melding historical narratives with cultural and personal narratives, complex layers of storytelling are developed in her work. Margaret will give a talk about her artistic practice, in tandem with her current exhibition in the Johnson Exhibition Gallery.
