Virtual Middlebury

Open to the Public

Erin Wolcott is an Assistant Professor of Economics and the Jones Jr. Faculty Fellow in Applied Economics at Middlebury College.

We assemble a dataset of high-frequency state-level layoff data from the Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. In the early days of the pandemic, we used this data to document layoffs in the United States were predominantly temporary. In recent work, we study the effect of local stay-at-home orders in March-April 2020 on mass layoffs.
