Panel Discussion on the Relationship between Import & Export Controls and National Security

Experts on Import and Export Controls from the HIS-TTU, U.S. Department of State, United States Customs and Border Protection, United States Department of Commerce (Office of Foreign Assets Control and Bureau of Industry and Security), and MIIS will be discussing various import and export control regimes and regulations and their effectiveness in addressing current and future threats to US National Security. Specific topics of discussion will include:
1. Sanctions and their effect on state behavior,
2. Protecting our borders from the illegal movement of weapons, drugs, contraband, and people, while promoting lawful trade and travel,
3. The increased use of new technologies to circumvent export and import controls, and
4. The increased use of new technologies to defeat those circumvention activities.
The panel discussion will be unclassified and open to the student bodies of MIIS and Middlebury College.
