Open to the Public

‘Rooted in Land, Shaped by Fire’ presents recent work by Akwesasne Mohawk artist Margaret Jacobs and will be on view in the Johnson Gallery October 8-November 20, 2026. Themes of stewardship, cultural continuity, and environmental change are explored through Jacobs’ sculpture that reflect on how knowledge is carried across generations through adaptation and artistic practice. Developed with contributions from students in Winter Term courses ART1037A and ART1035A, the exhibition invites reflection on Indigenous histories, environmental stewardship, and the enduring connections among community and place.

The opening event will be led by student organizations Voices of Indigenous Peoples, M Gallery, MiddCat, MiddMyco, the Knoll, New Perennials, EcoReps, and the Studio Art Department, with catered snacks, some very exciting student art workshops, and wonderful cross campus collaboration.
