On campus professor Ingenschay will speak about Pedro Lemebel (Santiago de Chile, 1952-2015), a gay chronicler, essayist, novelist and performer who is well-known for his defiant attitude towards the repressive Chilean society. As a performance artist, Lemebel was active during Augusto Pinochet’s right-wing dictatorship and organized event that disrupted the conservative order of the time. Although the topic will focus on Lemebel’s performance facet, professor Ingenschay hopes to offer a comprehensive image of this important Latin American artist, illuminating the connections of his work to political, societal and gender issues.
