Pianist Steven Osborne, OBE is one of Britain’s most treasured musicians. His performances exude an immense depth of musicality and exceptional refinement of expression across diverse repertoire, be it in Beethoven or Messiaen, Schubert or Ravel, Prokofiev, or jazz improvisations. His many honors include The Royal Philharmonic Society’s Instrumentalist of the Year, two BBC Music Magazine Awards, and two Gramophone Awards. His concert program will showcase his musical diversity: the first half features Debussy and Schumann; after the interval, we’ll be treated to works by Marion Bauer, Meredith Monk, Frederic Rzewski, Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, and even Osborne himself.
About the Artist: Steven Osborne’s musical insight and integrity underpin idiomatic interpretations of diverse repertoire that have won him fans around the world. A thoughtful and curious musician, he is often invited to curate festivals, including at Antwerp’s DeSingel, Bath International Music Festival, and Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, and he has served as Artist-in-Residence at Wigmore Hall. He is Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland; Patron of the Lammermuir Festival; and a 2014 Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to music in the 2022 Queen’s New Year Honours.
“What a world of sound and colour this pianist conjured up. Rarely do you witness such textural detail, so delicately balanced. This was a masterclass in the true beauty of pianism, delivered with an intelligent and instinctive musicality. —The Scotsman
“The performance, a thing of redoubtable authority and virtuosity, was a revelation.”—bachtrack
