The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Califnornia State University, Monterey Bay, presents The View from Putin’s Russia.
A quarter century has passed since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, but what has emerged from the shadows of this totalitarian regime? Russian scholar Anna Vassilieva will enlighten us on the current state of Russia as she explores numerous topics including the realities and aspirations of Russian youth, Putin’s influence on the nation, commonalities and differences
between Russians and the American people, and the prognosis for bilateral relations. All In all, an insightful perspective on current Russian society and how Russia views the world around her.
Anna Vassilieva, PhD, is a lecturer, author, translator and editor. Her articles on Russian foreign and domestic policy have been published in the Los Angeles Times, the International Herald Tribune, the Moscow Times and Jornal do Brasil, and she has been interviewed on CNN, PBS and Al Jazeera. Professor Vassilieva served as head of the Russia Studies
program at the Monterey Institute of International Studies for over two decades and currently directs the Graduate Learning Initiative in Russian Studies,funded by the Carnegie Corporation.
Admission for the general public is $10.
