The Rohatyn Center for Global Affairs program on Security and Global Affairs presents “White Supremacy and Global Accelerationism” by Amy Cooter, Director of Research, Academic Development, and Innovation (RADI) at CTEC, MIIS.

White supremacy in the United States is often imagined as a specifically American phenomenon, as white nationalist groups often use symbols like the Confederate flag to show their commitment to the movement. However, notions of whiteness and white political citizenship are also globalized, and connected to international and global processes like immigration and Euro-American heritage. This talk will explore the connection between global accelerationist beliefs and white nationalist militias.

Dr. Amy Cooter is the Director of Research, Academic Development, and Innovation (RADI) at CTEC who focuses on antigovernment extremism. She has studied a range of groups who use a nostalgic understanding of the past to justify their actions. Her primary expertise is on U.S. domestic militias, white nationalism, global accelerationism, and how groups of armed individuals who see it as their civic duty to uphold the Constitution the way they believe it should be interpreted.
