So, what is reproductive justice? Reproductive justice is a movement and a set of beliefs that refers to the position that people should have the rights to have kids, not have kids, and have the resources to raise their kids free from oppression and shame. Right now, this isn’t the case. Incarcerated women are often shackled when giving birth. 89% of counties in the U.S. do not have abortion providers, so women’s access to abortion is unequal. State and federal support continues to be cut, which impacts the ability of poor women to parent. Reproductive justice centers marginalized groups and emphasizes the effects of lack of access to resources, which impacts many women’s reproductive decisions. Combating racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, classism—these are all reproductive justice issues.
