Join the Biology dept SAC for a screening of the cult classic and (more or less) scientifically accurate documentary, “Cane Toads: The Conquest.” We will provide popcorn, cupcakes, and snacks from the co-op! Come through to learn about Australia’s pest control method that resulted in one of the most absurd and preventable environmental disasters of the 20th century.

Dr. Annaliese Beery, is in the Psychology & Biology Departments and Neuroscience Program at Smith College, where she studies the neuroendocrinology of social behavior using voles (https://sophia.smith.edu/~abeery/Beery_Lab/Home.html). Dr. Luis De Leon, U Mass, Boston: Human development is influencing patterns of biological evolution in unprecedented ways. In this talk, I discuss how these effects are playing out in the iconic Darwin’s finches of the Galapagos. This example illustrates how humans are a novel and potent evolutionary force in nature.
