The December P&P monthly lunch series discussion will be held on Friday, December 7th. Our featured guest will be writer, journalist and radio/tv host David Goodman, discussing his work on his recent book, co-authored with Prof. Mark Warren at UMass, Lift Us Up, Don’t Push Us Out: Voices from the Front Lines of the Educational Justice Movement (Beacon Press, Sept 2018).

David will discuss with us the school-to-prison pipeline, and the work ahead to address racial inequity in schools.

What is driving the recent rise in suicides among the Bhutanese refugee community here in Vermont? What can communities do to support refugees and other new community members as they adapt to new surroundings and work to build their lives here? The Open Door Clinic, based in Middlebury, provides access to quality healthcare services, free of charge, to uninsured and under-insured adults in Addison County. This fall, we are looking for people who can either speak Spanish or who are certified EMTs (whether fluent in Spanish or not). The training will provide information about the clinic, the population it serves and techniques on how to be a medical interpreter, facilitating communication between Spanish-speaking patients and English-speaking medical providers.

The NESCAC Votes Summit is a two-day event hosted by Middlebury College in collaboration with NESCAC partner institutions and the All In Democracy Challenge. NESCAC Votes Summit will gather students, staff, and faculty members in order to collaborate, learn, and develop strategies to increase campus voter turnout for the upcoming national elections.
