Faculty and staff are invited to join a group of folks working quietly together for all four weeks of Winter Term on whatever it is that will advance their individual work agendas. This endeavor is mainly about getting you to a place where you can turn off everything else and work productively in the company of others seeking the same goal.

Info session led by Dean Gates on finding Undergraduate Research Opportunities On- and Off-Campus. Opportunities available in multiple disciplines. Programs discussed include Amgen, C3, Middlebury Summer Research Assistants, REUs, SURF and application processes. Session will be recorded. Come to the awards ceremony for the Paul W. Ward ’25 Memorial Prize in writing for the Class of 2020. The prize recognizes those second-year students who the faculty judge to have produced outstanding essays in writing classes during their first year. Refreshments will be served. A fellowships information session led by Dean Lisa Gates about the graduate study opportunities (conducted in English) offered by the Schwarzman and Yenching fellowships in China; the David-Weill Fellowship at Sciences Po, and the Knight-Hennessy fellowship at Stanford.

Learn about Fall 2109 fellowship opportunities and application processes with for seniors and recent graduates. These include British fellowships (Gates-Cambridge, Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell), Fulbright, NSF Graduate Research Fellowship, and the Watson fellowship among others. British, Watson and Fulbright processes all have April deadlines so if you plan to be abroad in the spring, this is a great session to attend!

Attention first-years, sophomores and juniors: learn about fellowships with late fall / winter deadlines: Beinecke, Critical Language Scholarship (CLS), Goldwater, Pickering, Rangel, Truman, Udall and more. Most of these are only open to sophomores and juniors—but a few are also open to first-years. These are all different, but include awards for graduate study, summer study, and undergraduate study in various fields: science and math; environmental studies; public service; foreign service, humanities, social sciences, and study of selected languages.
