This talk will present a framework - 4 Ds (debt, demand, demographics, and de-risking/de-coupling) - for understanding China’s economic challenges and their implications for the rest of the world. It will also explain the structural forces that have led to China’s recurring overcapacity challenge and how Chinese firms are coping with these challenges.

The IP&E program welcomes majors and prospective majors to a reception to celebrate the beginning of the academic year. The reception is also meant as a way for students returning from abroad to reconnect with friends and professors.

In this lecture, Xan will analyze the success and failures of The Economist’s (and his own) coverage of events that have shaped the world.
