Experimental guitarist, film composer, and former David Bowie sideman David Torn gives a concert of solo electric guitar improvisations. The New York Times described Torn’s 2015 solo release, Only Sky, as “[an abstract landscape that is] both immersive and deftly disorienting.” Sponsored by the Committee on the Arts, Department of Film and Media Culture, Music Department, and the Mahaney Center for the Arts. Free

Inspired by the popular storytelling phenomenon The Moth, Cocoon is a special evening of true stories told live and without notes. This year’s theme is “roots,” in honor of the celebration of 50 years of environmental education and leadership at Middlebury. This third-annual community-wide event is produced by the creators of the Middlebury MothUp in partnership with the Mahaney Center for the Arts. A reception with the storytellers follows. The Language Schools will present the Vermont film premiere of this documentary film, which takes a cinematic journey across five continents and into the heart and soul of one of the greatest works of art. The film will be introduced by its producer/director, Kerry Candaele.
