A New Acquisition: David Teniers the Younger's "Cabinet Painting" of Titian's Rest on the Flight to Egypt

Sponsored by:
Museum of Art
In the 1660s, Teniers the Younger set out to compile the first-ever visual inventory of an art collection. He created 243 “cabinet paintings,” standard-sized, small-scale copies of paintings owned by Archduke Wilhelm Leopold of Austria. Pieter Broucke, Professor of History of Art and Architecture and Director of the Arts, highlights one of these, which depicts an early masterwork of Titian and was recently donated to the museum.
