Join Marco Motroni ‘25 for his senior independent study as he performs “Music I Like”: a personal show that showcases different types of music that have impacted his life. Along the way, you will learn about these genres in more detail as well as the people in Marco’s life who have made this music infinitely more enjoyable to explore!

Join George Matthew Jr. on his 90th birthday as he plays a beautiful concert from Middlebury Chapel’s bell tower. The melodic sounds of the carillon bells will ring out across the campus. This concert, as part of the New England Chapter American Bell Association (NECABA), will feature works by Bach and Haydn as well as a mix of traditional Irish, Ukrainian, and Mexican songs. Free and open to the public.

The Middlebury College Community Chorus presents a world premiere for choir and piano called So We Try, composed by Peter Buffett and arranged for chorus by Peter Kiesewalter. There are also selections by Pete Seeger, Felix Mendelssohn, Ed Thompson, as well as another world premiere by Vermont-based composer Dorothy Robson. This will be an evening chock-full of new music that will challenge the way you think about choral singing, our relationship to the Earth, and our shared humanity. The Orchestra’s spring concert features the evocative, romantic masterpiece Symphony No. 1 by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius, the world premiere of the compelling Overture in D by Asher Holton ’25, and George Gershwin’s iconic paean to jazz: his exuberant and toe-tapping Rhapsody in Blue with piano soloist Gregory Marcinik ’25. The Perfect Outing for Mother’s Day!

This spring the Middlebury Community Wind Ensemble, conducted by Jerry Shedd, honors Mother’s Day with a family celebration of its own, featuring four generations of Middlebury’s own Friml Family. 

Experience the beauty of vocal chamber music as the student-led ensemble Cantorum brings you an evening of masterpieces by William Byrd, Francis Poulenc, Orlando Gibbons, Tomás Luis de Victoria and more. Together, Chelsea Robinson ‘26 (soprano), Samantha-Grey Solomon ‘25 (alto), Oran von Der Heydt ‘28 (tenor), and Sebastian Holbrook ‘26 (bass) combine Renaissance polyphony and Baroque elegance with a 21st-century approach. This performance promises to transport you through centuries of vocal composition. Don’t miss this unforgettable musical journey!

This J-term, the students of The Craft and Culture of the DJ acquired mixing skills and a solid foundation in dance subcultures spanning from the 1970s to the present. Come check out their music and dance. 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Forest Basement. See you there!
