For their independent study in Music with Assistant Professor Matthew Evan Taylor, Jude Seo ‘24.5 and Brett Sorbo ‘24.5 will perform pieces composed and inspired by jazz musicians whose work altered the trajectory of the music, including Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, and Sun Ra. An Evening of Storytelling and Piano Improvisation

For his Senior Work in Music, Brett Sorbo ’24.5 will present stories and proverbs as famously told by South African master pianist Abdullah Ibrahim, who he first met when Ibrahim visited Middlebury in 2023 as part of the Performing Arts Series. In this intimate performance setting, Brett will weave the audience through a collection of Ibrahim’s stories, both orally and by improvising at the piano. Sponsored by the Department of Music.
