Eric L. Hirschhorn
Mr. Hirschhorn currently serves as the Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security and head of the Bureau of Industry and Security. Appointed by President Barack Obama, Mr. Hirschhorn was sworn in on April 2, 2010. Mr. Hirschhorn oversees the US Department of Commerce agency that advances U.S. national security, foreign policy and economic objectives by ensuring an effective export control and treaty compliance system and by promoting U.S. strategic technology leadership. Mr. Hirschhorn’s current role is the latest in a distinguished career in government service and private law practice, inclusive of serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Export Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce from 1980 to 1981. Mr. Hirschhorn is also the author of The Export Control and Embargo Handbook, whose third edition was published early in 2010 by Oxford University Press, as well as number articles on export controls, embargoes and related topics.
