The Rohatyn Center for Global Affairs program on Global Economics presents “Digital Innovations in Education: Scaling Adaptive Learning and I-Powered Teaching” with Carolina Lopez.

This presentation examines two studies on digital technology in education for resource-limited settings. One evaluates a computer-adaptive learning platform with group tutoring for improving math performance among Dominican Republic high school students. The other explores how AI-focused teacher training transforms classroom practices in Peru. Both studies provide insights into scalable, tech-driven approaches to address educational inequities and drive systemic change.

Carolina Lopez is a Research Economist in the Human Development Team of the World Bank’s Development Research Group. She focuses on topics related to education and human capital in developing countries. In her research, she studies how people’s beliefs about the world affect their behavior and welfare. Before joining the World Bank, she was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University.
