Community Friends

The Community Friends Club leadership will lead a training for mentors to refine their skills, ask questions, and gain support from other mentors and the Community Friends leadership team. 

The Community Friends Match Day is an event in which children from Addison County are matched with Middlebury College students who serve as their mentors. Children and their families will gather at Kirk to meet their new mentors and hear a presentation about the program and its guidelines. Included in the event will be time for outdoor activities, crafts, as well as light snacks provided by Community Friends.

Community Friends is collaborating with the Knoll for our first pizza party! The mentors and mentees will each get one pizza dough and can create their own pizza with customized toppings! The Knoll interns will be helping out and leading some other guided activities and a mint tour around the garden! We can’t wait to see you there!

Community Friends is holding an end-of-year BBQ celebration for all our mentors and mentees. We will be grilling food for everyone attending while having outdoor games, a dunk tank, a balloon artist, and a craft station. Our food station will include burgers and hotdogs with chips and fruit salad. A dessert table will have some cookies along with a snow cone machine station. Kickball, corn hole tournament, face painting, and flower pot decorating will all be available as activities for the kiddos and mentors to do together. There will be children from the community at this event.

Matchday allows our mentors to meet their paired mentee and the mentee’s family for the first time in a comfortable space with facilitated activities. Through ice breakers, games, crafts, and a presentation, the matches can learn about each other and plan their upcoming meetings! By having family members attend, mentors can learn the families’ goals for what they hope to get out of our mentorship program. Our event is open to college students who have applied to be a mentor and community members who have applied for their kiddos to get matched!

Come to our annual mentor nation Halloween festival! We will be hosting a Fall BBQ with tons of Halloween games and crafts! This includes pumpkin decorating, cookie decorating, costume contests, face painting, coloring sheets, and a Halloween scavenger hunt around the CCE! This event will take place indoors and outdoors!
