Professor Murray Dry will give a talk about his newest book “The Same-Sex Marriage Controversy and American Constitutionalism: A Study in Federalism, The Separation of Powers, and Individual Rights”. He will discuss the twofold character of his examination of the same-sex marriage controversy and then explain how this controversy relates to the larger question of the place of the federal courts, and especially the Supreme Court, in the American system of government.

Middlebury alumni Aaron Mendelsohn who attended Northwestern Law School and currently works at Ernst and Young’s Forensic and Integrity Services practice, will speak to the club about his experiences with consulting, law, and politics. He will discuss the possible intersection between these career fields, his undergraduate experience here at Middlebury, his law school experience, his work as a federal prosecutor in the US Attorney’s Office, and past experiences working on presidential campaigns. After he speaks on these experiences a Q&A from students will follow.

MiddLaw is hosting a board election on Tuesday, April 9, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm at Axinn 109. All positions are up for grab. Anyone who has come to an event in the past is encouraged to run, as we are seeking new members to lead and new ideas to bolster the club. In the past, MiddLaw has hosted speakers such as federal judges and former dean of Yale Law, as well as events with alum.

 MiddLaw Club will be virtually hosting Midd Alumni who are either currently in law school, or have since graduated and are working in the law field. Students from schools such as UChicago, Georgetown, and University of Michigan Law School will give advice to students on applying to law school, succeeding once accepted, and finding opportunities in the career field.
