Welcome to our movie night featuring Whiplash, an Oscar-winning film that talks about how an ambitious jazz drummer pushes his limit. It’ll be a rather encouraging and refreshing night as we’re heading to the finals! Refreshments will be served if you come in person. You may also join us online via Zoom! See you there!

The Student DEI Community is pleased to announce the establishment of a MIIS Land Acknowledgement in partnership with the Ohlone Sisters. This event represents our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion issues at MIIS and is aimed at establishing trust with the local indigenous communities to the land in which our institute resides. This event is open to students, faculty and staff.

Please join us for an exciting speaker series with Ari Redbord! He is head of Legal and Government Affairs at TRM Labs and will be speaking with us about “North Korea, Russia, and national security threats in the age of cryptocurrencies” with a bit of time spent on the DPRK crypto hacks.

Dr. Petrich will chat about her experience as a woman in the field interviewing violent actors and law enforcement as part of her field research.

CSWG President Elle Zesky presents her recent findings on the NFT and decentralized space. She takes a sociological step into the world of Web 3.0 and NFTs. She will speak about the Good the Bad and the Ugly of it all. At the end she will post an informational video full of recent NFT scandals, gossip and triumphs in the space.

The local Monterey Soccer team is having their first home game of the season come out and support your local club!

As for Japanese Center@MIIS’s last event for this semester, we are having a picnic style language meetup at Friendly Plaza (the park area right next to campus, by City Hall). Join us to celebrate the end of this semester with fellow classmates in a casual setting! This event is geared towards language learners, native speakers looking for a place to connect, and those wanting to practice. Any and all languages are welcome. Snacks provided. We will be screening the episode of Netflix’s “Our Great National Parks” (narrated by Barack Obama) which focuses on Monterey Bay’s National Marine Sanctuary. Come watch sea otters, learn about the local environment and be lulled by the dulcet tones of Mr. Obama!
