The Middlebury College Orchestra celebrates orchestral color with three masterworks featuring Wagner’s thrilling prelude from Lohengrin, Debussy’s sumptuous Nocturnes, and Schumann’s evocations of spring in his Symphony No. 1.

Come join orchestra for our information session!  We’ll be going over important information about rehearsal expectations, auditions, and logistics, and the meeting will be followed by the first night of auditions. Audition with two contrasting excerpts from pieces you feel comfortable playing—that’s it! If you do not feel prepared to audition this Thursday, we will be continuing auditions this Sunday. Meet the composer! Learn more about the work “Spiral Galaxy” in a free pre-concert lecture by composer David Ludwig, Dean and Director of Music at the Juilliard School.

In this lecture/demonstration, Dreamers’ Circus covers the important role that Nordic traditions play in the trio’s music-making. They will discuss how an understanding of their own folk heritage informs their contemporary approach to the music and performance. By exploring links between past and present, the trio demonstrates the contemporary vitality of the folk culture of Northern Europe.
