Parker Merrill Speech Contest – Semi-Finals

Oratory Now revives a Middlebury tradition that began in 1825: the Parker-Merrill Speech Contest. In this semi-final round, a dozen students will compete for a place in the finals (April 29), at which prizes of $500, $250 and $250 will be awarded. In a tradition dating back to 1825, six student speakers will compete for Middlebury Speaker of the Year, and a top prize of $500. Each will deliver a six-minute response to this year’s theme: “What if instead … we try this? Competitors include 2016 Finalist Tabitha Mueller ‘18, Sarah Howard ‘19, Anna Dennis ’17.5, and Kyle Meredith ‘19, as well as first-year students Lynn Travnikova ’20 and Griffin Bell ‘20.
