Middlebury College participates exclusively in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan program, in which borrowers obtain loan funds directly from the U.S. Government. Repayment on the Federal Direct loan begins six months after the student graduates or leaves college.

If you are an undergraduate applying for financial aid, the Federal Direct loan you are eligible to borrow will appear on Banner Web. If you are an undergraduate and did not apply for financial aid, please complete the Federal Direct Loan request form below. 

Maximum Undergraduate Subsidized Eligibility

First Year $3,500
Sophomore $4,500
Junior $5,500
Senior $5,500

All undergraduates are eligible to borrow an additional $2,000 unsubsidized loan.

Requirements for Direct Loans

  • A completed FAFSA form.
  • A Consortium Agreement if the student will be studying abroad at a non-Middlebury program.
  • For first-time Federal Direct borrowers, you must complete Entrance Counseling and a Loan Agreement/MPN on studentloans.gov.
