2019 Scott Center Alternative Spring Break Trip to Washington DC: Impacting Social Policy in Changing Times

Sat., March 23—Sat., March 30, 2019

See a slideshow of our trip here!

The group will meet with representatives from a wide range of both faith-based and secular NGO’s across the political spectrum. Our goal is to look at how policy is formed and influenced, particularly in the area of economic justice.

This is a unique opportunity to meet and speak with people who may hold similar or very different social views than you, as we learn to speak across difference and gain perspective in a rapidly changing political landscape.

While the program is still in formation, we hope to meet with organizations such as:

American Friends Service Committee (Quaker)

Catholic Relief Services

Bread for the World

American Enterprise Institute

Religious Action Committee of Reform Judaism

Young Evangelicals for Climate Action

In addition, students will participate in a hands-on community service work opportunity.

This trip is highly subsidized by a number of generous donors.  Student cost is $250, which includes transportation, housing and some meals.

Enrollment is limited.  Priority will be given to applications received before February 15.

Upon acceptance, students must make an initial non-refundable deposit of $100. This payment is a sign of commitment to the program, so appropriate travel and housing reservations may be made.
