Oratory Now

Awarded Summer 2015

Led by Middlebury Theatre Professor Dana Yeaton, Oratory Now is a student-centered initiative to reinvent the way oral expression is taught, practiced, and recognized at Middlebury. Taking place both inside and outside the classroom, the multifaceted program consists of experienced peer tutors who help students develop their public-speaking skills—ultimately helping to shape a college-wide oratory program. The program was launched in the 2014-2015 academic year and is in its second year. 

Oratory Now has created a myriad of programming, ranging from frequent oratory workshops to the physical education course, OratoryX, to the revival of a speaking event. Professor Yeaton teaches theater, playwriting, and oratory at Middlebury College. He is the recipient of the "New Voice in American Theatre" award from the William Inge Theatre Festival and is the founding director
of the Vermont Young Playwrights Project. He has been the director of Oratory Now since its inception in the fall of 2014.
