Authorized Radioisotope Work Areas

Limited Access Areas, for routine usage of stocks of high activity, their dilution and storage, and storage of radioactive wastes. All areas are marked by approved signage:

BIH 362, 363 (T. Allen)

BIH 465 (S. DeSimone)

Less-Restricted Areas, for occasional instructional usage of diluted stock of lower activity. Note that these areas may not be used for overnight storage of radioactive materials or radioactive wastes, except in a secured ultralow freezer.

* – These three labs require special permission for use.

Disposal/Storage in the radioactive waste storage room (BIH 129) is under the supervision of Timothy Wickland, the Director of Science Support Services. Each waste lot must be properly packaged and delivered to the storage room as per the Middlebury College Standard Operating Procedures for Radioactive Waste Disposal.
