Economic and Community Impact

Middlebury College plays a major economic role in our community. As the largest employer in the county, as a purchaser of products and services from area businesses, through the taxes and voluntary payments we pay to local governments, and through the investments we have made in important local projects such as the Cross Street Bridge, the Town Hall Theater, and the new town offices and town recreation facility, the College’s impact is significant.

We have prepared a fact sheet on the economic and community impact that we hope will help in answering the occasional questions that arise about the College’s role in the town, county and state.
