Matt leads his staff of seven writers in developing content for the College’s quarterly print magazine and its robust online element that requires weekly multimedia content. He is regularly involved with all major print and Web communications and also co-directs the Middlebury Fellowships in Narrative Journalism.
He graduated from Washington and Lee University, where he was a journalism major—as well as the son of a journalism professor. Before coming to Middlebury 10 years ago, he spent seven years at Sidwell Friends School as director of publications. His work has won national awards, and the magazines he edits are routinely recognized among the best in their class. He’s often asked to present at conferences and webinars on best practices in magazine writing and editing.
“Both the thrill of managing day-to-day coverage and the intellectual satisfaction of editing months-in-the-making narratives are a great part of my job. Neither, though, can equal the rush of springing the perfect practical joke on an unsuspecting colleague.”
