Coffrin Hall

First Year/Upperclassmen Residence Hall

Atwater Commons

Once known as the Barn, Coffrin Hall is now a residence for first years, sophomores and juniors in Atwater Commons.  Built in 1986 under the name of North Hall, Coffrin was originally going to be funded and designed by a man named Mr. Barnes; however, longtime trustee Albert W. Coffrin came along and offered more money to name the building after him. As the legend goes, Mr. Barnes was allowed to work with the designers, and he decided to model the building after barns, hence the origin of Coffrin’s “barn” (Middlebury Admissions Office). The residence hall is conveniently located near Atwater Dining Hall and Atwater parking lot.
