Interest Houses

Updated for 2017-2018 Housing Process

Academic Interest Houses are residences where students pursue a common academic interest and share the fruits of that interest with the campus community. Special Interest Houses are similar residences whose focus is centered on a theme outside the academic arena. Oversight of these houses is the shared responsibility of the Office of the Dean of Students and the academic (in the case of Academic Interest) or administrative (in the case of Special Interest) department sponsoring the house.

Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible to reside in Interest Houses.

Out of respect for all groups, applicants who plan to submit requests to multiple housing units (i.e. Social and Interest Houses, SuperBlocks, Residential Life, etc.), should clearly indicate those intentions on all applications and if offered more that one option should correspond with each group about their final decision.

Once a student commits to a program by accepting an offer they are no longer eligible for any other housing offers or to participate in any further housing processes and are responsible for withdrawing those applications and/or contacting the appropriate group leader.  Students are advised to carefully consider any offer before accepting.  Under rare circumstances if a student is approved to renege on a commitment they are ineligible to participate in other housing processes and will be housed by the Residential Systems Coordinator.  During the spring processes for the following fall term this means the student would be housed during the Summer Draw process.

APPLYING 2017-2018

Use the following links to navigate to the specific Interest House webpages for contact and application materials.  Applications to join an Interest House will remain open on the individual Interest House pages listed below until Sunday, February 19.

Following the end of the Application period each program will determine to whom offers will be extended and provide those names to the Residential Systems Coordinator (RSC) by Monday, February 27.

All first-round offers will be extended by the RSC, Karin Hall-Kolts on Wednesday, March 1.  Responses are due back to the RSC by Noon on Friday, March 3.  If a student receives numerous Interest House offers for they may only accept one offer for a term, Fall, Winter and Spring.  If additional offers need to be made they will be extended by the RSC soon after.
