My name is Leila McVeigh and my pronouns are she/her. I was born and raised north of here, in New York State. I identify as mixed race, half French Canadian and half Filipina.
I have worked as a therapist with adolescents and young adults in school and mental health settings. I earned my BA in Psychology from Middlebury in 1998 and my Master’s in Clinical Psychology from St. Michael’s College in 2003. My approach to counseling is strength based, learning first what skills and wisdom a student already brings in so we can partner in creating something that works. I have training in a variety of treatment modalities and have been especially interested in Polyvagal Theory recently. One reason I came to Middlebury was to go deeper into culturally informed care. I encourage an integrative perspective that balances attention to mind, body, and (for those who wish) spirit.
I am married and I have a young adult child who is in college. I live in Middlebury in a beautiful spot well suited to quiet living. While doing chores I like to put in a podcast to get some news, culture, social justice, science and movie recommendations. When time allows, I enjoy choral singing and community theatre. For now, I’m mostly focused on enjoying my role as a Posse mentor. I also take a turn hosting the campus Weekday Morning Sitting Meditation in the Crest Room.
