Fall 2020, Students

Dear Families,

Please see below for a summary of information and resources that have been sent to students and families over the past few weeks in preparation for the fall semester. We recommend frequently checking two primary sources of information: the Orientation and Middlebury 2020–21 websites.

Home Quarantine

Home quarantine began Wednesday, August 12, for students arriving on August 26. Observing the home quarantine is one of the most important ways students can contribute to a healthy semester, and we appreciate their doing it. We know it’s not easy for anyone, so thank you for supporting your student in this.

Preparing for Arrival

Essential prearrival instructions can be found in the July 31 email from Dean of Students Derek Doucet to the Middlebury community.

We expect students to read through the following documents and complete the necessary online trainings and health pledge.

Prearrival Checklist

Please continue to reference our prearrival checklist for tasks that your student should complete before they arrive on campus or begin remote study. If your student is behind on anything, they should still complete the task and, if they have any questions, reach out to orientation@middlebury.edu.

New Student and Family Orientation

MiddView helps new students connect to their peers as well as access resources that are available to them during their time at Middlebury. The final schedule is in progress and will be published on our website when it is updated.

Family orientation programming will be available starting August 24. This will include some video recordings, live webinars, and links to resources. Please check our website frequently for updated dates, times, and events.

Family Welcome Receptions

This year, we are hosting virtual welcome webinars for the parents of the Class of 2024 and 2024.5. The webinars include a combination of current parents, faculty, and students who speak about their experiences, offer tips and advice, and welcome new parents. The panels are moderated by Neal and Helen Goins P’17, ’19, co-chairs emeriti of the Parents’ Committee. The final webinar will be held on August 18 at 8:30 a.m. EDT. To register, please click here.

Thank you very much for all your time and energy supporting your student through the transition to Middlebury this year.

Sincerely,

Amanda Reinhardt
