Today, more than 60 million girls around the world are out of school. REID (Redefining Education in International Development) believes that we can do something to change this. It is time for action — so the student-led organization at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS) will be hosting a free public screening of the documentary He Named Me Malala to raise awareness for the urgent issue of girls’ education not just globally, but locally.

Join REID at MIIS in the Samson Student Center as it hosts a keynote speaker on the state of girls’ education followed by a lively panel discussion among both academics, practitioners and even MIIS alumni in the field. This will all build up to the inspirational documentary film on Colton Lawn in Friendly Plaza about education activist Malala Yousafzai’s life and her fight for girls’ education. The keynote, panel and screening are all free to the general public to attend. We’ll be organizing a popcorn fundraiser during the screening in the park to help raise funds for future events like this.

The keynote speaker, moderator and panelists are still being confirmed. Please continue to check our public event page at http://action.malala.org/events/film-screening-w-keynote-panel-discussi…, as it’ll be the first place we share who these speakers are. So, mark your calendars! We’re excited to see you there!
