THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED. IT WILL BE RESCHEDULED.
U.S. News and World Report (2017) recently ranked School Psychology as the #1 Best Social Service job and #47 in the top 100 jobs. It is expected that the careers in school psychology will continue to grow at a rate of 20% through 2024. School psychologists are uniquely trained in education and psychology and work with families, teachers, school administrators and other professionals to create safe and supportive learning environments for all children. Career roles and responsibilities vary substantially and often include: working directly with children and adolescents in 1:1 or small groups, providing counseling and skill instruction, assessing and evaluating individual differences to identify appropriate intervention strategies, working collaboratively with parents and teachers, and using research to inform instructional practices to name a few. School psychologists apply their expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help children and youth succeed. They are uniquely trained and are required to hold a graduate degree and supervised experience in school psychology. Typically that degree requires two-years of full-time coursework and a year of internship. U.S. News and World Report (2017) report the median salary of school psychologists to be $70,580 although this varies by location and number of days worked each year. As school psychologists are often employed (although not always) by school districts, they have the benefit of working during regular school hours and having school vacations. Come learn more about school psychology as a career choice!
