In this class, students will delve into the ancient Indian martial art of Kalaripayattu and its profound impact on various movement and healing practices across Asia, as well as its influence on modern dance forms. Rooted in the rich heritage of Kerala, Kalaripayattu has deeply influenced diverse Asian dance traditions, enriching movement practices across cultures. In this class, students explore the synergy between Kalaripayattu and contemporary dance, enhancing agility, speed, and expressiveness through fluid and dynamic movements.

Born and brought up in India, Chavi Bansal’s diverse dance training includes Bollywood, Indian Martial arts and modern dance. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Modern Dance and Choreography from Fontys Hogescholen voor de Kunsten in the Netherlands, followed by a Master’s in Education from Harvard University. In 2010, Chavi founded her dance company, Vimoksha, blending Indian and Western dance techniques.
