“Tales of Two Basic Research Projects Leading to the Development of Drugs against Cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease”
The purpose of this lecture is to tell how basic scientific research can lead to the development of drugs against cancer and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The first story is about the history of an anticancer drug, Cisplatin, and the discoveries made by the Choi group on how a platinum containing chemical compound oxidizes DNA. The second story is about another research project done by the Choi group on the mechanism of AD at a molecular level, which may lead to the rational design of a drug against AD.
