For the third summer, CCI is partnering with Team4Tech to provide a unique opportunity for Middlebury students.

The Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology (GGAST) is a boarding school for 270 girls, located in the Gashora Sector of Rwanda, an hour south of the capital city of Kigali. Their vision is for their students to become inspired young leaders filled with confidence, a love of learning, and a sense of economic empowerment to strengthen their communities and foster Rwanda’s growth. 100% of their graduates get scholarships to attend university abroad including the USA.

Project Scope: GGAST and Team4Teach are partnering to bolster GGAST as the leading Science, Technology, and Innovation hub in the country for both teachers and students. One facet of the partnership is to increase student’s excitement and proficiency around technology as well as foster their entrepreneurial goals. This will be Team4Tech’s fourth engagement with GGAST as part of a five-year partnership.

At the start of the internship, each intern will be assigned to lead and mentor a team of Gashora students to execute an extensive technical capstone project requiring research, planning, and a final prototype. At the end of the project, each team will present their project to the school’s teachers and staff as part of 5th Annual Gashora Projects Exhibition Day prior to departing Rwanda. The college interns will also organize a one-week technology boot camp for a select group of the Gashora Girls. The objective of the boot camp is to teach the students new ICT skills (for example: Programming and Coding, Robotics, Graphic or 3D design, Security, among others) that will help them in their future careers.

The interns will be housed at the Lakehouse Fish Farm, a working farm on the scenic shores of Lake Mirayi.
