Community Engagement Work in A Rural Context

The Center for Community Engagement and the CTLR invite you to this facilitated discussion about student engagement in rural communities, with special guests Stephanie Lesparance, Campus Compact’s Rural Engagement Network Fellow, and Star Plaxton-Moore, Campus Compact’s Faculty Development Fellow. 

• What are the unique opportunities and responsibilities of academic groups engaging in rural community settings? 
• What assumptions do faculty, students, and staff hold around the assets and needs of rural communities? 
• What strategies should academics embrace around social issues in rural communities? 
• How does DEI work intersect well with rural community engagement?  

Lesparance and Plaxton-Moore will help answer those questions and inform how our faculty can wisely approach potential collaborations with the residents of rural areas, including our own. This discussion will also inform and energize the planning for a Fall 2023 workshop series. Come be a part of the action.
