Affiliate Artist Diana Fanning gives a beautiful solo concert marking her 50 years of teaching at Middlebury. An acclaimed concert pianist with national and international accolades, she’s also a Middlebury alumna with deep roots in Vermont. Come celebrate a half century of music making at this Fall Family Weekend event.  The program features Chopin’s rapturous Sonata in B Minor, a dazzling masterpiece of the Romantic era, and Janácek’s On an Overgrown Path, a deeply-moving, autobiographical piece that represents memories from the composer’s life.  Favorite works by Beethoven and Debussy complete the program.

Fanning has toured extensively as a solo performer and chamber musician throughout the U.S. and Europe, and has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, on Vermont Public Television and Radio, and live on “Morning Pro Musica” (WGBH-FM) in Boston, on WNYC in New York City, and on Radio Prague.  With cellist Dieuwke Davydov, she went on numerous concert tours of Europe.  She has performed as a guest artist with the Takács, Alexander, Jupiter, and Schumann String Quartets, and with ensembles from Point Counter Point Music Camp, which she owned and directed for ten years with her husband Emory Fanning, Professor Emeritus of Music.
