Hansel und Gretel, oder: Die morderischen Kinder von Finsterwalde."

The German Theater Group at Middlebury presents this semester’s German play, “Hänsel und Gretel oder: Die mörderischen Kinder von Finsterwalde.” In this fresh take on the Grimms’ famous fairy tale, a police detective and his assistant are left to wonder what really happened in the house of a very old lady who is found brutally murdered one morning. Do Hänsel and Gretel, caught in the woods not far from the crime scene, tell the truth when they claim that the old woman was a cannibalistic witch who tortured the children for days? Or did these runaway children kill a weak and poor old woman who had been good enough to take them in and feed them until the most basic instincts took over in these kids and they disposed of the old woman in one fell sweep?
