The dynamic and charismatic Heath Quartet—our series’ first quartet-in-residence—is one of the most exciting British chamber ensembles of the moment, steadily building a reputation for their upbeat and integrated sound. We celebrate our 20th year of support from the Sunderman Family Concert Fund with this free concert, including works by Bach, Haydn, Henriette Bosmans, and Erick Korngold.

The Heath Quartet formed in 2002 at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England. Among their many honors since: a Borletti-Buitoni Special Ensemble Scholarship, Ensemble Prize at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a Gramophone Chamber Award for their recording of the complete string quartets of Sir Michael Tippett, and the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society’s Young Artists Award. They perform regularly across the U.S., at the Mecklenberg Vorpommern summer festival, and at London’s Wigmore Hall.

This free event is made possible thanks to the Sunderman Family Concert Endowment Fund, in memory of Dr. F. William Sunderman Jr. and Dr. Carolyn Reynolds Sunderman.

“The Heath not only conveyed total mood and atmosphere on a dime, but they are also wrought of a single-minded sound.”–Philadelphia Inquirer

“It was a fortunate audience that experienced the Heath Quartet giving a soul-affirming demonstration of what chamber music is all about.”—New Zealand Herald
