“Join us as Middlebury graduate Jaed Coffin discusses his book, A Chant to Soothe Wild Elephants. The book chronicles Jaed’s time as a Buddhist monk in his mother’s village in Thailand, in an effort to address the notion of displacement, ethnic identity and cultural belonging. Jaed has received numerous fellowships and awards including a William Sloane Fellowship from the Bread Loaf Conference, a Resident Fellowship from the Island Institute, and a Wilson Fellowship from Deerfield Academy where he is currently writer in residence. Jaed is from Mid Coast Maine, and teaches Nonfiction at University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast MFA. Wednesday, March 2, Dana Auditorium.
