Mediating Collateral Damage: Development, Infrastructure Banks, and Grievance Mechanisms
In this talk, Julian Portilla describes his work with Haitian farmers, the Haitian government, and the Inter-American Development Bank to develop a plan for compensating farmers who were displaced by an industrial plant built after the 2010 earthquake.
Portilla (BA, Vassar; MA, George Mason) is a bilingual mediator and facilitator who has also worked for the UN as an organizational consultant and serves on the roster of Democratic Dialogue practitioners. He is currently director of Champlain College’s Center for Mediation and Dialogue. His work involves the design and implementation of community, environmental and political consensus-building processes primarily in Latin America and the United States.
