The Rohatyn Center for Global Affairs program on Global Health and Medicine presents “Reporting on Public Health In Uncertain Times” with Apoorva Mandavilli.

Beginning on Day 1, the Trump administration declared a withdrawal from the World Health Organization, dismantled foreign aid, slashed domestic grants, and overhauled vaccine policies. Its Friday night purges were often followed by equally swift reversals or lawsuits from states and medical organizations. This talk explores the frenetic pace of reporting on these radical shifts, and how the press can yet hold power to account amid the churn.

Apoorva Mandavilli is a reporter for The New York Times, focusing on science and global health. She shared in the paper’s 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service for coverage of the pandemic, and was also a member of the team that was a finalist for the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting. She is the 2019 winner of the Victor Cohn Prize for Excellence in Medical Science Reporting, and has won numerous other awards for her writing.
