Join Professors Gloria González Zenteno (Luso-Hispanic Studies) and Catharine Wright (Writing and Rhetoric/GSFS) for an info session about a fully-funded course in Spain in summer 2025: SPAN 0351, Las Ovejas Cuentan: Cultura y Cambio Climático en España.

This drop-in session will take place in Professor González’s office, Robert A. Jones House 111.

In this course, students will learn about environmental, economic, and social conflicts that affect Spanish farmers and shepherds, including how they’re impacted by and working to mitigate climate change. We will stay at a research station in the Guadarrama mountains, and journey to a unique agrosilvopastoral ecosystem in Extremadura. Working with environmental scientists, farmers, and wool workers, students will learn about rotational grazing to support soil health and the value of wool as a sustainable fiber. Students will take wool working workshops and reflect in writing on the conflicts farmers face. Students will produce media about their experiences for public audiences. (SPAN 0220 or waiver. This course offers SPAN, ENVS cognate and CW credit)
