Virtual Middlebury

Open to the Public

Sponsored by the Latin American Studies programs at Macalester and Middlebury, Toward New Latin Americanisms is envisioned to be a space in which generative thinkers question the current state of Latin American studies (in the United States and beyond) and speculate as to which direction(s) we may go in the future. In this conversation, Nicolas Shumway (Professor Emeritus of Spanish at Rice University and the University of Texas at Austin. https://cultures.rice.edu/faculty/nicolas-shumway) will discuss his views of Latin American studies as an administrator, scholar, and teacher.

We do not expect to follow a traditional speaker format, but rather we hope to spark conversation between students and faculty participants at Macalester and Middlebury. For more information and to register, please email Nicolas Poppe (npoppe@middlebury.edu).
