Demonstration in Solidarity with Middlebury Staff

As students, we value the hard work of Middlebury staff members but that is not represented in their wages. The people who keep this school afloat deserve a living wage. Wear all black to demonstrate your support of higher wages! Meet at Mead Chapel at 12:30 to advocate for change through protest!

Professor Emeritus Emory Fanning will perform these six brief, beautiful hymn preludes, and discuss Bach’s approach to the chorales and the compositional techniques involved in each. Bach published nearly none of his famous church cantatas during his lifetime, but these organ pieces, nearly entirely arrangements of his own cantata movements, were published a few years before his death.

Carillon Recital for World Peace

George Matthew Jr., carillonneur for Middlebury College and Norwich University, plays  “St. Francis’ Trial” by Belgian composer Jo Coenen on the Mead Chapel carillon. The work tells the story of the wonderful encounter between Saint Francis of Assisi and the Sultan Malek al Kamil in 1219, in stark contrast to the violence of the Fifth Crusade. This piece will be played on carillons throughout Belgium and Netherlands on this day to reflect the Ecumenical movement in Europe. An interfaith event following Muslim Jumma prayers at 1:00 PM.
